Allyza loves to explore new hobbies whenever she gets the chance. “I believe that’s how I developed the skills I have. I paint, crochet, play musical instruments, upcycle clothes, read books, and believe in living life to the fullest,” she says.

She describes herself as joyful and enthusiastic. “I come from a country of friendly people with warm smiles and welcoming hearts. Our culture is very family-oriented, providing everyone with a solid emotional foundation. I love the Philippines,” she says with a warm smile.

Allyza is currently pursuing two academic degrees. She is an IT student enrolled with the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines and at UoPeople she is pursuing a Certificate in Behavioral Health.

Why would Allyza choose to study two very different fields at the same time? “I’ve always been passionate about behavioral health and wished to study psychology at the undergraduate level, but for some reason couldn’t. I started looking for certificate programs that could satisfy my academic passion and found UoPeople. UoPeople has made it possible for me to live a lifelong dream. I really enjoy the Certificate in Behavioral Health program,” she shares.

How did she discover UoPeople? While simply browsing online, “I was looking for online schools that could offer flexible programs in behavioral science. Innovation was my top priority. So far UoPeople has exceeded my expectations,” she says.

According to Allyza one of the best parts about studying at UoPeople is that she can study in her cozy space at home and on her own time. “I only have to meet deadlines once a week after the assignments are given out. I also receive great support from instructors and program advisors. I never feel isolated or left alone to deal with challenges,” she says.

Allyza also remarked on how much she loves the global community at UoPeople and how much she has learned through interacting with other cultures from her peer group. “I enjoy when my classmates are curious about where I come from and what lifestyle I lead in the Philippines. I am thankful to UoPeople for giving me a global perspective. I am more considerate and empathetic now compared to before I joined the program. I have become more aware of global issues and concerns,” she adds.

What does Allyza do now? She owns a small online business related to her passion for crocheting. “My artistic hobbies are as important to me as my academic goals and dreams,” she says.

Somehow she is managing to juggle her work and her challenging academic life. “When you have such varied interests, time becomes a precious resource. I always try my best to manage my time wisely. I make sure I am left with enough time for self-care and physical exercise. I also like to indulge my cats and bond with my family and friends,” she says. Allyza relies on her support system of family, friends, and relatives. “They help me get through each day, making things easier and my dreams possible,” she adds.

In the near future, Allyza sees herself giving back to those in her home country by putting to use her specialized skills and knowledge. She feels studying human behavior has made her more aware of people’s needs. She believes she can now design products that will help her customers.

Allyza’s goal is to have a higher, sustainable income that along with exploring innovative business ideas will positively influence the lives of others. She also plans on opening a small coffee shop after she finishes her current academic pursuits. At UoPeople we are impressed and happy to see her accomplishing so much.
